DTA assists organisations to understand their workforce training needs through a Training Needs Assessment Service.
This service commences with a guided conversation, after DTA receive an initial request or a referral for training. DTA staff will explore with an organisation the characteristics of their particular setting, a range of factors known to contribute to delivery of high quality care; how training can assist in getting these right; and organisational preferences, e.g. training modality, timing.
If an agreement to provide training is reached, the Training Needs Assessment Service will then extend to an assessment of the dementia-related knowledge and skills of a sample of the staff to be trained. This assessment is necessary to lay a baseline for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the training, and will help DTA understand more thoroughly which options in the streams of the learning pathway to recommend for a Tailored Training Package. The baseline results can also be used to compare to a later assessment to understand potential knowledge translation impacts,and further training needs.
