Dementia in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) populations

This workshop aims to raise awareness about older people from CALD backgrounds with dementia in Australia, and their service use.

Participants will hear about demographics, factors influencing dementia care amongst CALD populations, and recent research and resources relevant to the topic. The workshop will also include discussion of barriers and enablers to care and provide practical strategies for care.

Workshop objectives:

  • Understand the characteristics of the current older population who were born overseas
  • Understand cultural factors related to dementia amongst older people born in CALD countries
  • Gain an overview of evidence based strategies to work with older people from CALD backgrounds who are living with dementia or experiencing the impact of dementia.

This one day symposium consists of six separate two hour workshops which each focus on the unique needs of individual groups of people living with dementia.

Session One 9.00 to 11.00am

Session Two 11.20am to 1.20pm

Session Three 2.00 to 4.00pm
